  1. I read in a Bloomberg article we had until Wednesday to inform the IRS about any children eligible for $500 stimulus payments if they want to receive the money this year. I do have a child that qualifies for the stimulus payment. Is the Bloomberg article accurate?

    • Yes, it is.

4/20/20 – IRS issues a special alert for SSA and RRB recipients with eligible children. People in these groups who did not file a tax return in 2018 or 2019 and have dependents must act by Wednesday, April 22nd.

For people in these groups who have a qualifying child and didn’t file a 2018 or 2019 tax return, they have a limited window to register to have $500 per eligible child added automatically to their soon-to-be-received $1,200 Economic Impact Payment.

A quick trip to a special non-filer tool on IRS.gov by noon Eastern time, Wednesday, April 22.

If people in these groups fail to sign up by the deadline, the taxpayer will have to wait to file the 2020 return to get the extra $500 payments.
