IRS Office Hartford – 135 High Street, Hartford, CT 06103

The IRS Office at Hartford is located in the William R. Cotter Federal Building. Construction of this Federal Building began in 1931, the cornerstone was laid through a public ceremony in 1932 and the construction was completed in the following year. Major renovations took place in 1964 and 1978 as the US Courthouse and the US Postal Service vacated the building respectively. The building was named after Congressman William R. Cotter in 1982, who represented the First District of Connecticut from 1971 until 1981, the year he died. National Register of Historic Places enlists this building. There are plenty of federal offices located in this building among which IRS is one, and some of the others are – C W Resources, RTW Enterprises Inc., SSA, ODAR, US Customs Services, US Department of Labor, and US Local Taxpayer Advocated etc. Some of the important locations close to this Federal Building are Hartford Station, XL Center, Hilton Hartford, Hartford Stage, TD Bank, Key Bank, Greyhound Bus Lines, and Union Place Apartments etc.

Directions

East on Chapel Street N: Head west toward Market Street and continue onto Morgan Street. Then, continue straight onto Chapel Street North. Take the 2nd from left lane to turn slightly left to stay on Chapel Street N. Then use the middle lane to turn left onto High Street. The Federal Building will be on the right.

West on Asylum Avenue: Head east on Asylum Avenue toward Woodland Street. Then turn left onto Cogswell Street and continue for a quarter mile. Continue onto Myrtle Street for another quarter mile, then continue onto Myrtle Street. Keep driving to continue onto Church Street. Finally, turn left onto High Street. The IRS Office will be on the left.

North on Main Street: While on Main Street, Head southwest on Main Street toward Westland Street. Upon arrival at the High Street, turn right onto High Street and continue. The Federal Building will be on the right.

South on Maple Avenue: Head north on Maple Avenue toward Essex Street. Continue onto Main Street for half a mile then turn left onto Wells Street. Few hundred feet later, upon reaching at the traffic circle, take the 1st exit onto Trumbull Street. Then turn left onto Jewell Street. Continue onto Ford Street, then few hundred feet later turn slight right onto High Street. The Federal Building will be on the left.

Monday through Friday from 8.30 am to 4.30 pm. This office follows the federal holiday schedule.

How to make an appointment

Parking

On-premises parking will not be easy to avail for the IRS visitors to this Federal Building. Metered parking streets are nearby. Commercial parking lots/garages are available within walking distance, e.g. Church Street Garage, Hooper Lot, Red Roof Inn Lot, Metro Center Garage, Saints Parking Lot etc.

Security

  1. Hi, My family moved to US in November 2017. My dad wasn’t employed so he didn’t file tax in 2017. But I need that information as a verification of non filling letter, for the tax year of 2017 in order to get financial aid in college. I have been trying out to get transcripts on but I’m not able to do so. Please help me out. Thanks!!
